DC Tree Farm Photographer | 5 Styled Looks for your Tree Farm Session

As your DC Tree Farm Photographer I am sharing 5 tried and true tips along with 5 styled looks for your tree farm family session! There’s something undeniably magical about the holiday season, and one tradition that encapsulates this magic is visiting a tree farm to choose the perfect Christmas tree. The experience of wandering through rows of evergreens, the scent of pine in the air, and the laughter of loved ones – it’s all part of the holiday charm. What better way to capture these precious moments than through a well-styled family session at the tree farm? In this post, we’ll explore the art of tree farm family photo styling.

5 Styling Tips for your Tree Farm Family Session

Choose Complimentary Colors

Start by choosing a color palette of colors that compliment one another, rather than too many of the same or similar colors. Be careful not to pick colors that clash. In the same way, stray from putting family members in matching outfits as it will distract in your photos.

Stick to Neutrals

I highly recommend choosing outfits that have more neutral color tones. Especially given the deep, dark greens of the tree farm setting. Earthy colors will compliment and pop against the backdrop and neutral colors will allow for timeless, beautiful images.

Skip Busy Patterns and Big Logos

Busy patterns and big logos can be extremely distracting in photos. One or 2 family members with a gentle pattern will add interest to your photos, but loud patterns or too many people in different patterns will clash. Incorporate mostly solids in your outfit choices, and include patterns sparingly.

Start with Mom

Options for Mom are seemingly endless, there are so many styles to choose from and generally Mom is going to be more particular with her clothing choice than anyone else in the family. Using this rule as a foundation makes it easier to choose a color palette and style everyone’s outfits. Start with mom, and then build on that choice one-by-one for the rest of the family.

Confidence Is Key

It’s easy to get carried away when planning outfits for your photoshoot, but be sure to choose something that you feel comfortable and confident in. Pick what fits you well and makes you feel good about yourself, it will shine through in your photos!
