We generally don’t think of doing outdoor photo sessions in the winter season. The leaves have fallen and it’s usually pretty cold which can make for a less than ideal scenery. However, babies are born year-round, so maternity sessions can’t wait for spring blooms or fall foliage! If your 28-34 week ideal window for your maternity session falls in the winter, don’t worry! You have options for capturing this very special time with a winter maternity session in DC. Below I’m sharing 5 locations for a winter maternity session in DC:
- SNOW – Ok snow is not actually a location and we all know the weather is fully out of our control (snow can be really hit or miss in the DC area), but sometimes the timing hits just right and we are able to capture that magical winter glow! That is what happened for this sweet, soon-to-be family of 4 last winter. The timing was just so that we were able to capture maternity photos in the snow, a rare and gorgeous opportunity! (Location – Oatlands Historic House & Gardens in Leesburg, VA).
2. DC Monuments – The monuments in DC are a stunning location for maternity photos and the great thing is that they are not seasonal. The beautiful white architecture of the monuments provides a gorgeous and iconic backdrop year round!
3. Greenhouses – There are several greenhouses in the DC area that provide a unique (and warm!) backdrop for maternity photos. One of my favorites is the greenhouse pictures above at Oatlands Historic House in Leesburg, VA.
4. Studio – A studio is always an option for a maternity session. I rent a gorgeous natural light studio in Old Town, Alexandria that has 2 rooms offering a lot of variety in your session. It’s also easy to do an outfit change in studio to capture multiple looks!
